SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
PROGRAM OVERVIEW CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION (M.ED.) The curriculum and instruction master's program may be completed either online or blended with courses on campus. Fully online students will be required to visit campus two to three times over the course of the program. Important: All of the coursework for Washington state's professional certification can be completed at SPU and count toward the M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction. The only planning requirement is that no more than two courses (6 credits) can be at the 5000 level, including the Pre-Assessment Seminar (3 credits) and the Culminating Seminar (3 credits). Due to the focus of the curriculum and instruction degree on the K–12 school system, it is preferred that each applicant has completed an approved program for teacher certification prior to enrollment. Exceptions should be approved by the C&I program chairperson. A PORTFOLIO AND PRESENTATION In addition to course requirements, students are required to create a portfolio over the course of their program, publicly present a solid piece of research in their interest area, and complete a comprehensive examination. However, these requirements will be integrated into students' coursework as much as possible.
