Curriculum and Instruction (MEd) SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
Be sure to read this overview and important information, including application information, about outcomes for graduate students in the master of curriculum and instruction degree program. CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION (M.ED.) At ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction degree is designed to help teachers strengthen instructional skills while developing leadership abilities for such roles as department chairs, staff development leaders, or curriculum coordinators. This master's program may be completed entirely online. Some courses are offered on campus as well. Consult the Time Schedule for specific offerings. PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION AND THE MASTER'S Some of the coursework for the Washington State Professional Certificate may be completed at SPU and count toward the MEd in curriculum and instruction. The only planning requirement is that no more than 6 credits at the 5000 level may be applied to the degree. Due to the focus of the Curriculum and Instruction degree on the K–12 school system, it is preferred that students have completed an approved program for Teacher Certification prior to enrollment. Exceptions will be considered by the curriculum and instruction program chairperson. PORTFOLIO AND COMPREHENSIVE EXAM In addition to course requirements, students are required to create a Portfolio over the course of the program. These requirements will be integrated into coursework as much as possible. Students will take a written Comprehensive Exam during the last quarter of coursework or the first quarter thereafter.
