I’m writing to let you know that today I am announcing the names of the four finalists for the position of dean of the College of Music. The announcement will be made in CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Today.
The four finalists are as follows:
- John S. Davis, professor of music at CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, has been senior associate dean of the College of Music since 2012, and served as acting dean from July–December 2019.
- Valerie G. Martin, associate professor of music at Susquehanna University, has been vice provost and dean of the School of Arts and Sciences since 2019.
- Jeffrey Pappas, professor of music at the University of Tennessee, has been director of the School of Music since 2012.
- Gabriel Solis, professor of music at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, has been head of the Department of Theatre since 2019 and previously served as the chair of the musicology division of the School of Music (2010–18).
The candidates’ interviews will take place virtually in late September and early October. Interview sessions with various College of Music groups and a virtual public session will be held for each candidate; dates and times will be announced when they are finalized.
I share the search committee’s goal of having a new dean named by the close of the fall 2020 semester. If you have any questions or concerns about the search process, please address them to Senior Vice Provost Katherine Eggert, who chairs the dean search committee.
