In celebration of the College of Music'sÌýcentennial year,ÌýThomasÌýRiis, Joseph Negler emeritus professor of music who directedÌýof the AMRC from 1992-2018,Ìýhas written,ÌýMusic at the University of Colorado:ÌýA Brief History.
The bookÌýtraces the early years of music in ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵÌý(1882-1919), presents directorsÌýFrank Chace and Rowland Dunham's work toÌýbuildÌýthe CollegeÌý(1920-1951), looks at many ofÌýthe expansion projects and achievements of Deans Warner Imig, Robert Fink, Daniel Sher, andÌýRobert Shay, and tells stories of many of the inspiring individuals that helped create what the College of Music is today.
Riis writes, "TheÌýCollege of MusicÌýhas benefited from the wisdom, wealth, and work of manyÌýinstitution builders in the city and university—as well as in the world well beyond ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. These dynamic women and men, often on the cutting edge of nationalÌýtrends (sometimes having reached the peak of their careers after leaving ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ)Ìýwhile familiar to historians, are perhaps less known or celebrated in Colorado thanÌýthey ought to be. It is hoped that this brief history will call attention to the variety andÌýextent of musical activities at the university for more than a hundred years now."
