The Center for East Asian Studies and the International House at the University of Chicago invite you to attend the 15th Annual Tetsuo Najita Distinguished Lecture in Japanese Studies. Originally scheduled to take place in-person, this event has now been moved to take place,VIRTUALLY.

This year’s lecture will feature Ichirō Tomiyama, Professor of Global Studies at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan. Originally trained at Kyoto University as an agricultural historian, Professor Tomiyama is best known as an historian and cultural critic who works on Japanese imperialism and colonialism, issues of identity in postwar Japan, war memory, and Okinawa.

Part of the "Rethinking 'Reversion': Okinawa, Japan, and the U.S. Fifty Years Later" anniversary series, hear Professor Tomiyama’s lecture entitled, “The Making of Okinawans: “Reversion” as ‘L’ensemble des efforts’.”
