Every fall, the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program launches its annual recruiting drive, reaching out to prospective applicants from countries around the globe. ÌýAs you may know, the JET Program, initiated by the Japanese government in 1987, invites college graduates to participate in foreign language instruction and international activities in Japan. ÌýNow entering its 37thyear, the JET Program has become widely known and respected both in Japan and around the world. ÌýThis year we are holding virtual info sessions and hope to reach out to as many students as possible who are interested in the JET Program.

Please note that all majors or educational specialties are welcome. ÌýApplicants must have or expect to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree by June 29th, 2023, and must hold US citizenship by the application deadline. ÌýThe ability to adapt to life in a Japanese community is a necessary requirement, therefore an interest in Japan, as well as a flexible and enthusiastic attitude, is essential. ÌýThose who meet these requirements and are interested in the program may apply for one of the following main positions:

1) Ìý Ìý ÌýAssistant English Teacher (AET)
AETs are assigned to local schools and boards of education in Japan to engage in foreign language instruction. ÌýAETs may also be involved in clubs, teacher seminars and other similar activities. ÌýApplicants must have excellent English skills as well as an interest in teaching. ÌýNeither Japanese language ability nor teaching experience is required for AETs.
2) Ìý Ìý ÌýCoordinator for International Relations (CIR)
CIRs assist in projects related to international activities at the local government level in Japan. ÌýDuties may include translating, interpreting, receiving guests from abroad and advising on matters related to international exchange programs. ÌýA functional command of Japanese and excellent communication skills are required for CIRs.

Online applications will be due no later than November 18th, 11:59pm HST. ÌýInterviews will be conducted in Denver with successful candidates departing for Japan in late July, 2023. The length of the initial contract is one year, and may be extended up to five years in total. ÌýAnnual remuneration will be 3,360,000 Japanese Yen, and round-trip airfare from designated points in the US will be provided.
