CAS statement on institutional racism in the US

The Center for Asian Studies recognizes the systemic nature and brutal expression of racism in the United States. People of Asian descent in the US have been painfully subjected to this racism, and Asian cultures and peoples have long been racially stereotyped and discriminated against within US institutions, along with other communities of color, including African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans. We condemn racist acts of police brutality and excessive force that have been used against all people of color in this country, but especially against African Americans and Latinos, who have experienced the overwhelming majority of this excessive force. We stand in full support of protestors and civil rights organizations in their calls for justice and accountability. CAS is committed to helping ensure racial equality in all facets of life at the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, and to calling out any marginalization and racist treatment of students, faculty, and staff occurring on campus and in the wider community.
