BUENO Familia Spotlight: Shelly Wyss
Prior to joining BUENO HEP, Shelly Wyss worked for the Weld County RE-8 School District as a special education instructor. She worked with moderate and severely special needs children ranging from kindergarten to twelfth grade level. Shelly’s compassionate nature made her a natural when working with these children. She enjoyed so much what she did that she even became a foster care parent to a couple of her teenage kids with whom she still keeps in touch.
Shelly obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley in 1999 in Speech and Language Pathology with a Minor in ESL. She then continued on her post-secondary education journey earning a double Master’s Degree also from the University of Northern Colorado in 2001. One of her Master’s Degree is in Severe Needs Cognitive Special Education and the other Master’s Degree in Special Education for Children with Mild/Moderate Needs. She earned her teaching certification as part of this program.
With Shelly’s educational background and her years of working with special needs students, she has been a great asset to BUENO HEP. She joined the BUENO HEP team as a part-time adjunct instructor in 2016. In 2020, Shelly became a member of BUENO HEP’s full-time.
Throughout her tenure with BUENO HEP, Shelly has demonstrated once and again her compassion and willingness to engage and encourage our non-traditional students to continue in their journey to earn their High School Equivalency Credential. Shelly goes above and beyond donating some of her personal time to make sure that her students are successful. In addition to overseeing our adjunct instructors, she also teaches math and tutors students both during the day and in the evenings. She has implemented a check-in program with our students where she meets with each one of them every two weeks for 15 minutes to make sure that they are getting what they need from the program. Shelly is a great team player and who pleasantly works with her colleagues and community partners. We are very proud to have Shelly as part of our staff.
