Since entering the PhD program, she has taught second- and third-semester Latin as a Graduate Part-time Instructor.&nbsp; In addition, this fall she has been working with the Program in Writing and Rhetoric and with <a href="/classics/jackie-elliott" rel="nofollow">Prof. Elliott</a> to prepare to teach our writing-intensive class, "Argument from Evidence," next year. She also volunteered to serve as the Center for Teaching and Learning’s Lead Graduate Student for the Classics Department.&nbsp;&nbsp;Faculty reports on visits to her Latin classroom were lavish with their praise.&nbsp; They note her “easygoing confidence that is clearly resonating quite well with her students,” that she “sets a high standard in her classroom and expects students to work hard and demonstrate true proficiency,” and that “she teaches like somebody who has spent years in the classroom, and is a credit to her department and university.”&nbsp; Rachel herself explains that “Through the cultivation of curiosity and a sense of exploration, I foster in my students an enjoyment of learning that can apply broadly to life.” She richly deserves this award and this recognition from the Graduate School.<p>&nbsp;</p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <h2> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--ucb-related-articles-block paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div>Off</div> </div> </h2> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Wed, 18 Jan 2023 17:36:16 +0000 Anonymous 1871 at /classics The Centro: Study Abroad in Ancient Rome /classics/2022/01/19/centro-study-abroad-ancient-rome <span>The Centro: Study Abroad in Ancient Rome</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2022-01-19T22:49:08-07:00" title="Wednesday, January 19, 2022 - 22:49">Wed, 01/19/2022 - 22:49</time> </span> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle focal_image_wide"> <img loading="lazy" src="/classics/sites/default/files/styles/focal_image_wide/public/article-thumbnail/image001.png?h=58727e0f&amp;itok=0Tc2Xi3R" width="1200" height="800" alt="the centro"> </div> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-categories" itemprop="about"> <span class="visually-hidden">Categories:</span> <div class="ucb-article-category-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-folder-open"></i> </div> <a href="/classics/taxonomy/term/265"> 2022 </a> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/classics/taxonomy/term/167" hreflang="en">announcements</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default 3"> <div class="ucb-article-text" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><p dir="ltr"><br> </p><div class="imageMediaStyle medium_750px_50_display_size_"> <img loading="lazy" src="/classics/sites/default/files/styles/medium_750px_50_display_size_/public/article-image/image001_0.png?itok=_9bbAweM" width="750" height="485" alt="the centro"> </div> <br><br><br> The Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome – “The Centro” for short – is <strong>the premier study abroad program</strong> for students who are passionate about ancient Rome and who long to experience it up close and in depth. &nbsp;We run one-semester programs in both the Fall and the Spring terms.<p dir="ltr"><br><strong>Want to learn more?</strong></p><ul><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr"><a href="https://wabash.zoom.us/j/7530210004" rel="nofollow">Tune into our virtual info sessions</a>&nbsp;on Friday, 21 January 2022 at noon, 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm Eastern.</p></li><li><a href="https://secure-web.cisco.com/1uIH90XWye_lLjIcUbJhNOjq6OIa9OTy2KT4aphVAZa30PzbGKSsqghgTtPOOsAZSFgWX2io6_C-iOtFJWx_IwdFmz25aeq8xZquWwuT_jaNFTBOZvYgGoSmk5PCysrhCLdMCtCuQNeq1yOfiY6_mU3SQqk3Lb8dubHpUsHepccvNs7V0Lc5THE3A2hDwqR0tTRyS2yPlpTIJYEGa4mskuhZ17t7ZvfyLOiUKMb4qak_vxO29Yujxr4vRPdJuEA6MoeRGlDp22BoQY5XOH17qJ_MtMPbseOPV-NxHQb5qsvAj9ikDQWhGm6aGzLeWGdAQMQwWP8YSSEV2k4V00yOTrDNtlLtSDgvr00a1nayt-fHou2IQ5nLRjsdXC3tjNOUp2qhldMxUVwDcrP7Fp88SIhkko0UGvcLj8XZ-ecBw-1M4pXD-92DM7S2gWo8ucZH0/https%3A%2F%2Fthecentrorome.org%2F" rel="nofollow">Check out our webpage: TheCentroRome.org</a></li><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr">Follow us on social media:&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/TheCentroRome" rel="nofollow">Twitter</a>, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/thecentrorome/" rel="nofollow">Instagram</a>,&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/c/TheCentroRome" rel="nofollow">YouTube</a>&nbsp;</p></li><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr">Read on…<br> &nbsp;</p></li></ul><p dir="ltr"><strong>The Centro’s curriculum focuses on learning on-site.</strong> The central course,&nbsp;<a href="https://secure-web.cisco.com/1GSLmaAfslGCoI5rl7F19oW5LDUfRTqmBDRGYmkZFYCdazkLyPvXj58uxkVRcXoo-OC-v9mQHBxdTHm_oA3D90FjXCKFgOopSy2ng8CfhVTCOpnNmZ65MvENguvezwznkCxfRV4NgtmjiHgdYgQEqOHW4EdBlfHgdjlqKJaRy8ynkZnuNW6sqQYRKVmH1VYTizV4kdVTLct4MUoeT4jXDO57wh1wS_zsX3f1SWUg_YYdENtb7Ss8AligD0QiFt_aVb-z_uV33tmijx5-_BSGjyTg3xsCo3-Uq17NPbmag2Pd4ntwGEkEgwZJaJJKVwmE1W2RNl3FrvNkkipaDODVws9FUNNHh_y6i9sMlRPnDUvGQ0yK8yPa86E8eGxnqNOISV_x1vssr82CnQ1Wct05dIW5AH71VCEuzyl6kQmnl0sn8QqiWCmoGkX1NAmTbEz-O/https%3A%2F%2Fthecentrorome.org%2Facademics%2F%23the-ancient-city" rel="nofollow">“The Ancient City,”</a>&nbsp;takes students to archaeological sites and museums virtually every class day.
