The Department of Critical Media Practices (DCMP) addresses the how and why of creative practices in the 21st century.
You will also learn critical perspectives so that you can place media practices within a broad cultural and historical continuum of innovation. We are educating future media artists and creators, which means developing professional production skills in a constructive and collaborative environment.
Undergraduate Opportunities
Pursuing a Media Production degree from the Department of Critical Media Practices at CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ means creating and thinking about media in completely new and innovative ways.
Our bachelor’s degree trains students to become innovative media creators.
Students majoring in any discipline may pursue a minor in Media Production in the Department of Critical Media Practices.
Graduate Programs
The Department of Critical Media Practices graduate program is comprised of a PhD in Emergent Technologies and Media Arts Practices, an MFA in Interdisciplinary Documentary Media Practices, and a Graduate Certificate in the field. Situated in the interstices of humanities, arts, and computational technologies the PhD is a 4-year fully funded practice-led program of interdisciplinary and transcultural scholarly research into new and evolving creative practices rooted in innovations in media art production technology, aesthetics, representation, and embodiment.
Graduate Certificates
The Graduate Certificates are 9-credit programs open to any currently enrolled graduate student at CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ and are designed to provide students from any field with a complimentary grounding in Critical Media Practices. The certificate program’s practice-based approach to research, scholarship and creativity introduces students to documentary forms, production methods, histories, theories, and aesthetics of the documentary moving image on all platforms including sound and immersive environments.
