ѳܲGeary Larrick (PhDMus’84) wrote an article called “College Percussion Pedagogy,” which appeared in the Summer 2011 edition of ٳNational Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors Journal. Much of his CU dissertation also has been published in the journal. He plays piano, snare drum and marimba and lives in Stevens Point, Wis.

Priorities in Percussion Geary Larrick (PhDMus’84) was published in the winter 2011-12 National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors Journal. Geary is a retired music professor from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point and performed for 30 years in the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra. He resides in Stevens Point and performs the snare drum in the Grenadiers Band.

At the National Museum of the Marine Corps last January, Lt. Col. Dale Bain* (Ling’84) retired from the Marine Corps Reserve in a ceremony presided over by Maj. Gen. Joseph Osterman (EPOBio’82). On hand were CU-«Ƶ alumni Col. Michael Bohn (Hist’80) and his wife Janet Hauck Bohn (Art’80), Lt. Col. Matthew Kelly (PolSci’83) and his wife Rebecca Baxter Kelly(貹’84),Brian Lawler (PolSci’84) and Capt. Michael Selby (PolSci’85). Also in attendance were Dale’s parents, his wife Sue, their son and three daughters. Sue is a former member of the CU-«Ƶ athletic department staff. They live in Fredericksburg, Va.

On Feb. 12 Geary Larrick (DMus’84) performed a Black History Month program on solo marimba in Stevens Point, Wis., where he lives as a retired music professor of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He writes that his latest work was a review of Angela Smith’s book Steel Drums and Steelbands: A History, which appeared in the December 2013 issue of ٳMusic Educators Journal.

“The Rowdy Mermaid” sounds like an interesting book or a funny nickname, but in reality it is a «Ƶ kombucha restaurant inspired by owner James Dunn’s (Geog’84) daughter. James opened the store after he saw a need for a caffeine-free kombucha drink that children, including his own, could drink. The store is one of the first kombucha taprooms worldwide, and CU-«Ƶ alumni receive a 15 percent discount.

Photographer and graphic artist Rob Decker (Comm) of Nederland, Colo., fell in love with the designs used by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s and ’40s. Combining his artistic abilities with his interests in national parks, he has begun designing graphic art posters about national parks in the WPA style. He calls it the National Park Poster Project. After working in Japan, Hawaii and on Colorado’s western slope, Noel Ludwig (Geol) is now lead hydrologist in California for the federal Bureau of Land Management.
