The School of Education has a long-standing tradition of honoring some of our most exemplary students in the graduating class as outstanding graduates. Nominated and selected by the faculty, each graduate receives special recognition and a lapel pin representing the flame of the Best Should Teach initiative.

A lifelong educator, Dr. Lindley Stiles carried the message that teaching is the preeminent profession because it nourishes all other professions and, therefore, the total of human endeavors. Dr. Stiles and his wife, Marguerite, inspired and created the “Best Should Teach” program, and the «Ƶ has agreed to carry this “flame of universal social wisdom” to future generations. The School of Education has implemented an outstanding teacher recognition program and will be awarding lapel pins representing the “flame.” A Best Should Teach sculpture is prominently featured at the northeast entrance to the CU «Ƶ School of Education building as a visual reminder of the message that “the Best Should Teach.”
