The CU ��«����Ƶ School of Education and the Center for Assessment, Design, Research & Evaluation (CADRE) will host the third National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) Special Conference on Classroom Assessment from Sept. 18-19.

Three education students interning with the Latino History Project are helping document and preserve the past by making local Latino history available online and for teachers. “This project has allowed us the opportunity to, in a way, rewrite history, my people’s history, to serve as a counter story to the images we receive every day,” said Esmeralda Castillo-Cobian, a senior in the Ethnic Studies and Education BAM program.

Doctoral student Kirsten Musetti Tivaringe is one of 30 literacy leaders named to the International Literacy Association’s 30 Under 30 list, a cohort of young innovators, disruptors and visionaries creating positive change in the global literacy landscape. The competitive list celebrates rising leaders in the literacy field.

As the year comes to a close, we like to reflect back on progress and accomplishments as we also look ahead to future initiatives and to our steadfast dedication to our commitments to democracy, diversity, equity and justice. Here are 18 of our top highlights and milestones from the year 2018.

A collaboration between the ��«����Ƶ School of Education and Northeast Colorado Board of Cooperative Educational Services has received a new grant from the Colorado Department of Higher Education that bolsters collaborative efforts to create a more sustainable teacher force in Northeast Colorado. 

As a community of educators, researchers, staff and students, we affirm our support and love for our transgender and gender nonbinary students, friends, colleagues, and family members. Here are a few ways that you can join us in fighting against trans erasure by increasing support and visibility of trans people in particular. 

The American Physical Society, a "leading voice in physics,” will honor CU ��«����Ƶ scientists and educators as part of its spring 2019 awards. The Excellence in Physics Education Award will recognize an interdisciplinary CU ��«����Ƶ team for their work with the Colorado Learning Assistant Program and the Learning Assistance Alliance, an international initiative based in the School of Education. Congrats to Valerie Otero, Laurie Langdon, and team.

Two national organizations have awarded a grant that will deepen and advance our partnership between Denver Public Schools, CU ��«����Ƶ, CU Denver and Rowan University. Professor Ben Kirshner is one of the Principal Investigators on the project that received a $1.4 million grant from the Hewlett Foundation and Jobs for the Future to expand the Student Voice and Leadership Program.

Led by School of Education doctoral students Molly Hamm-Rodriguez and Astrid Sambolín Morales, a new report found that K-12 students who fled Puerto Rico for the mainland face waves of continued issues, including housing instability, language barriers and culture shock one year after Hurricane Maria decimated the island.
