The three-week assignment served as a studio introduction to themes around public safety, first amendment rights to peaceably assemble and architecture as activism. Each theme will continue to be threaded through the remainder of the semester-long course. The hypothetical studio project, entitled O.A.S.I.S., proposes a joint venture between the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) to produce prototypes for a rapidly deployable public safety station.

The prototypes will serve to offer three key public safety amenities: aid, safety and immunity, which are designed for urban settings where demonstrations and protests may occur. Each student will explore the interpretation of project requirements through the lenses of non-political public safety and architectural activism.
