  • The Leadership & Community Engagement major prepares ethical, skilled leaders committed to addressing complex public challenges in our nation and across the world. Through this program, students develop a deep conceptual understanding of theories of leadership, public policy and social change.
  • The certificate in writing allows students to gain an understanding of and demonstrate expertise in writing studies, broadly defined. It offers a curriculum that goes well beyond the writing courses that schools and colleges require of all students, thereby preparing students for professional life and enriching students' awareness of writing as a life-long tool for civic engagement.

  • English majors explore every major genre of English and American literature, as well as brand new fields of study. From Anglo-Saxon literature to digital media studies, from the earliest English novels to contemporary graphic novels, faculty and students work to advance an understanding of the English Language’s cultural and literary history.

  • The Communication minor explores how communication shapes everything we do in society. It teaches students how to design innovative messages, build quality personal and professional relationships, foster critical thinking skills, and prepares students to thrive in a variety of professions.

  • International affairs majors begin their studies with a survey of the most compelling global issues of the day and then go on to detailed analyses of international relations and economics. Courses also focus on problems of international development, the environment, international economic relations and United States foreign policy.

  • The Certificate in Peace, Conflict and Security Studies is designed to help students explore why conflict and violence occur, and to develop practical, nonviolent skills to analyze, intervene and resolve conflicts in their personal life, in their communities and between countries.

  • The Sociology major focuses on the scientific study of human social behavior, specifically looking at how society influences individuals, and how individuals influence society. Students explore a large array of social topics and phenomena using the sociological imagination.

  • The leadership studies minor prepares tomorrow's leaders to ethically lead through a combination of academic coursework, self-reflection and team projects.

  • Anthropology is the study of people, both ancient and modern, in their cultural, biological and environmental contexts. Students of anthropology learn to appreciate biological, social, and cultural diversity throughout human history, to understand the meaning of human biological and cultural development, and learn what it is to be human.

  • Humanities students explore Western and non-Western literature and the arts to discover the critical relations between them and to analyze the evolution of ideas and values in a range of cultures and time periods.

  • The Political Science major offers instruction in the scientific study of politics and provides students with the skills necessary for a lifetime of inquiry, engagement and analysis. Courses explore various facets of the political world, including the fields of American government and politics, comparative politics, public policy, political theory, empirical theory and methodology, and international relations.

  • Students in the English minor program study both literature and the practice of writing through the exploration of various genres. Studies in English cultivate humanistic and global empathy, and empower students to be engaged citizens and vital contributors to the advancement of the world’s societies and cultures.

  • The Real Estate program educates students about the three fundamental building blocks of real estate: real estate property markets; real estate capital markets; and the legal environment where real estate is built, bought, sold, valued, used as security for mortgages, taxed, owned and rented. 

  • The field of ethnic studies was born out of, and is dedicated to, struggles for social justice for all people. The minor provides courses that examine how race and the interrelated categories of ethnicity, gender, class, indigeneity and sexuality affect the lives of people in the United States and around the globe.

  • The Marketing program develops students' analytic and decision-making skills in such areas as digital marketing, customer relationship management, advertising, market research, brand/product management, selling and sales management, distribution, relationship marketing, international marketing, marketing consumer products and services, and marketing nonprofit organizations.

  • Linguistics is the scientific study of language and involves the analysis of language form, language meaning, and language in context. The minor in linguistics emphasizes the ability to analyze language and evaluate claims about language.

  • Students majoring in Management & Entrepreneurship will learn to recognize the pivotal role that information plays in the business world and to use their knowledge to increase business competitiveness. There are six tracks within this area: Strategy & Entrepreneurship; Talent Management; Leadership; Information Management; Operations Management; and Business Analytics.

  • The Media Studies minor emphasizes the creative and analytical skills needed to make sense of current and future trends in media, and to gain a deep understanding of the history and development of various means and forms of communication. Explorations of media theory, history, criticism, practices, popular culture, technology and emerging cultures are enhanced by practical training in media design, storytelling, digital art, online community engagement, documentary filmmaking and social media.

  • A Cinema Studies major helps students develop skills to analyze the art of film and moving images. The program provides knowledge on the history, methodology, aesthetic value, and production of cinematic storytelling. Critical thinking and writing skills are heavily emphasized as students examine cinema through film screenings, readings, and lectures.

  • Anthropology is the study of people, both ancient and modern, in their cultural, biological and environmental contexts. Anthropologists get to ask and answer the big questions about humanity. Who are we? Where do we come from? Where are we going? A minor in anthropology allows students to explore the foundations of anthropology and its subfields: archaeology, biological anthropology and cultural anthropology.

  • By examining how race and the interrelated categories of ethnicity, gender, class, indigeneity and sexuality impact the lives of people, the Department of Ethnic Studies encourages students to look at their inherited/political/social/cultural positions in society to create a new social reality in an ever-changing global society.

  • Students pursuing a Journalism minor develop skills in information gathering, storytelling and analysis across a variety of platforms—including television, social media, mobile devices, radio and print—using an ever-expanding variety of media tools and technologies.
