Location: 3237 Wright Ave, ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ
Duration: January 2025-May 2025
Hours: 30 hours throughout the semester (hybrid: depending on student mobility)
the BCIV:
ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Council for International Visitors (BCIV) was founded in 1962 as a non-profit volunteer organization with a focus on citizen diplomacy. It was founded to encourage understanding and friendship between the community and its visitors from abroad. The BCIV program consists of hosting short-term international visitors for professional and cultural exchange and offering social events for ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ residents to meet these visitors such as potluck and home hospitality dinners. BCIV is part of a national network of organizations that program visitors that are in the U.S. State Department's International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). BCIV is also a member of Global Ties U.S, a national network of international exchange.
Internship Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented undergraduate student intern to work with the program director, Zuza Bohley, learning to write proposals to host professional exchange programs, assisting in outreach to professional resources, and perhaps accompanying international professionals to their professional meetings and planning, organizing and participating in social events for high-ranking international professionals. This internship offers hands-on experience in international exchange, citizen diplomacy, community engagement, and intercultural competence. The intern will play a vital role in supporting various activities, including proposal writing, connecting to professional resources locally as well as internationally, documenting in person community events, publishing a monthly newsletter. Details regarding the exact tasks and commitment are determined after meeting with supervisor Zuza Bohley and depend on student’s availability, interests and skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Proposal writing: Assist in writing proposals, research about local resources and experts to fit the outlines given by the US State Department.
Community Events Support: Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of one community event, including logistics and participant coordination.
IVLP programming: Support IVLP programming in ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ for international visiting groups with outreach to student, university and community groups that align with the International Visitors Leadership program theme/ cultural diaspora. Assist in researching cultural programs of interest for short-term, high ranking international visitors.
Professional Learning Support: Assist in the preparation of professional, cultural, educational and recreational events for visiting groups.
Qualifications:
· Current undergraduate student
· Strong interest in cross- and intercultural experiences and community engagement.
· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
· Reporting to Zuza Bohley, BCIV Executive Director & Lead Program Officer
