The Rare Books Room and the garden level of the are set to become a haven of pride and revelry on February 28, 2024, as we host the inaugural Lex Libris celebration. This reception is dedicated to honoring the recent book publications of our esteemed Colorado Law faculty. 

The name "Lex Libris" is more than just an alliterative title; it is a wordplay that encapsulates the essence of our celebration. In Latin, "Lex" translates to law, and "Ex Libris" means "from the books of." The latter is historically used as an inscription on a bookplate to indicate the owner of a book. Blending these terms, we create "Lex Libris," a nod to the legal academy while embracing the tradition of marking ownership within the pages of a book. 

From 5 – 7 pm on the 28, Lex Libris will bring together faculty, students, alumni, and friends to celebrate and admire the scholarly achievements of our faculty. A selection of hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served. Alumni, faculty, staff, and students are welcome!

We are proud to spotlight the remarkable books published by our faculty in 2022 and 2023, including Ahmed White's "Under the Iron Heel: The Wobblies and the Capitalist War on Radical Workers" (University of California Press, 2022); Andrew Schwartz's "Investment Crowdfunding" (Oxford University Press, 2023); Paul Campos' "A Fan's Life: The Agony of Victory and the Thrill of Defeat" (University of Chicago Press, 2022); Justin Desautels-Stein's "The Right to Exclude: A Critical Race Approach to Sovereignty, Borders, and International Law" (Oxford University Press, 2023);Jennifer Hendricks' "Essentially a Mother" (University of California Press, 2023); Suzette Malveaux's "A Guide to Civil Procedure: Integrating Critical Legal Perspectives (co-edited with Brooke Coleman, Portia Pedro & Elizabeth Porter)" (NYU Press, 2022); and Pierre Schlag's "Twilight of the American State" (University of Michigan Press, 2023). 

In addition, attendees will receive a more wide-ranging printed digest of recent faculty scholarship, including journal and law review articles and more. These diverse and thought-provoking works cover a range of topics, reflecting the depth and breadth of expertise within the Colorado Law faculty.  

"Lex Libris" is not just a celebration of books; it is a celebration of the collective knowledge, passion, and dedication that our faculty brings to the study of law. Please to honor the written contributions of our esteemed faculty and foster a culture of appreciation for the transformative power of legal scholarship.
