What inspired you to pursue a law degree?

AT: Working with immigrants and asylum seekers after undergrad opened my eyes to the barriers immigrants face trying to obtain legal security and safety in this country. Previously, I thought the world had enough lawyers, but after working in this field, I saw my clients struggle to find access to low-cost immigration attorneys, and knew I wanted to help.

What are your hobbies outside of work and school?

AT: I am an avid reader, my favorite stories usually involve generational family sagas. My favorite is The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See. When I'm not reading, I'm usually weightlifting, taking a workout class, or dabbling in Nintendo Switch games.

What was your career before deciding to come to law school?

AT: I was very lucky in high school to be a year-long Rotary Youth Exchange Student to Switzerland. I was there in November 2016, when every Swiss person I met wanted to talk to me about American politics and the election. Because of that, I decided to get my degree in Political Science and International Relations. I graduated from Texas State University in May 2021, then worked at various non-profit organizations/ resettlement agencies mostly as a case manager.

Why did you choose Colorado Law?

AT: Honestly, after speaking to Alan Schieve at a law school fair this past year, I could already see how the community at Colorado Law would be a supportive and inclusive one. I was drawn to that and of course, the mountains!

What are you most looking forward to this upcoming academic year?

AT: Meeting other people who are just as passionate and nerdy as me!
