Frequently Asked Questions

Before the housing application can be accessed, students that are new to the university will need to pay the $200 confirmation deposit to Admissions and confirm their Identikey security credentials. Please ensure that these items are completed as soon as possible, as this process can take up to 3-5 business days to complete.

If you are completing a postdoctoral program, you will need to reach out to the Graduate and Family Housing office via email at graduatefamilyhousing@colorado.edu to have access granted to the separate portal that your application is housed in.

Currently, we are not accepting applications for faculty and staff members as our primary focus is to house as much of the graduate and postdoctoral population within CU as possible. We encourage you to keep an eye on our website as any changes to this will be posted here first.

Athens North is a community that is mostly dedicated to housing first year graduate students. The goal is to offer a type of transitional housing that is similar to what you might see in on-campus undergraduate housing. Residents hold a contract for their space and the cost of housing is charged to their bursar’s account with the university. Athens North is also restricted to university affiliated residents only, so families are not permitted to live in this hall.

Athens Court, Marine Court, Newton Court, and Smiley Court are all lease holding apartments. What this means is that rent is charged monthly directly to the primary lease holder and a late fee may be applied to unpaid rent. Primaries can bring their immediate families to live with them in these units as non-responsible occupants.

While our primary goal is to send out most of our offers before August, this may not always be the case. Offers are sent on a rolling basis as apartments become available, and our office is not able to guarantee availability.

Applications will start being accepted April 8, 2024, including the payment of a $50 non-refundable application fee. All apartments will have a security deposit of $1,000 due upon acceptance of an apartment offer. Completion of an application does not guarantee that you will be offered an apartment.

Students assigned to Athens North housing will be assigned a roommate utilizing the roommate compatibility questions within the application. If you have been assigned to a community other than Athens North and hold a lease, the office will not assign you roommates.

It is important to note that the application can only have one primary occupant. The primary is the sole resident that the lease is held with, and can add and remove occupants at their own discretion. This also means that decisions such as splitting the rent are solely within the primary’s responsibility. The Graduate and Family Housing office is not responsible for settling roommate disputes.

Graduate and Family housing is an animal free community.
