Graduated with PhD 2015
I am currently a clinical assistant professor of ESL/bilingual education in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University. I completed my graduate degree in the Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity Program within the School of Education. My research interests include second language acquisition, biliteracy, and bilingualism in K-12 public schools. For my dissertation, I examined how language ideologies intertwined with standards based reform may limit bilingual students’ opportunities to develop an academic register of language in both English and Spanish. In my work, I draw upon sociolinguistic theories that support examinations of language development in the context of schooling as a social, cultural, and political phenomenon. Before coming to CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, I spent 5 years teaching English Language Learners in Arizona.
