Two staff members and one student serving on CDHE planning committee

Three CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ representatives will serve on a statewide sexual misconduct summit planning committee led by the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE).

The CDHE appointed committee members earlier this month, and they will meet for the first time on Jan. 28. Representing CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ on the committee will be Teresa Wroe, senior director of education and prevention and deputy Title IX coordinator in the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance; Jessica Ladd-Webert, director of the Office of Victim Assistance; and Violet Stoudt, an undergraduate student majoring in women and gender studies.

requires the CDHE to host biennial summits on institutional campuses for stakeholders, advocates, students, faculty and others to facilitate discussions, share information and hear from experts. The summits will focus on education about and the prevention of sexual misconduct in higher education. Members must represent colleges and universities from across the state and include six student representatives.

The 2021 summit is expected to take place this spring or summer, and more information about the date and priorities is forthcoming.

In December 2019, CDHE Executive Director Angie Paccione appointed Valerie Simons, associate vice chancellor and Title IX coordinator for OIEC, to the Colorado Sexual Misconduct Advisory Committee, which she chairs. Since then, Simons and the advisory committee have provided Colorado institutions with recommendations for addressing federal Title IX rule changes.

On Jan. 15, the advisory committee issued a second report with recommendations to the education committees of the Senate and House of Representatives of the Colorado General Assembly.

In other news, OIEC’s quarterly report is available online. Each year, the office publishes quarterly and annual reports on case resolutions. Quarterly reports enable OIEC to provide more frequent updates and increase transparency about what is reported under sexual misconduct and discrimination and harassment policies.
