The University of Colorado at 葫芦娃视频's Career Services department will host a statewide minority career conference on Nov. 11.
More than 50 employers, including Lockheed Martin, Lucent Technologies, the Colorado Department of Corrections, Andersen Consulting and the Federal Reserve Bank, will be on hand looking for full- and part-time employees and interns.
The conference will be held in the University Memorial Center Ballroom from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will provide an opportunity for African American, Asian American and Hispanic-Latino college and high school students from throughout Colorado to learn about various career options. Members of the community also are invited to attend.
The mission of the conference is to connect minority applicants with industry representatives. "It also shows the business community that CU does have a diverse population," said Derrick Watson, assistant director of Career Services. "In fact, we have very outstanding minority students and the corporate recruiters really enjoy interacting with them."
Amparo Garcia, a tri-executive of the Minority Business Student Association at the College of Business and Administration, encourages students to take part in the conference. "At no other time in our lives will we have so many recruiters from so many industries at our disposal," she said. "Once you graduate, you have to search businesses one-by-one to find a career. This conference makes it so much easier."
"The conference is definitely for people looking for a career, not a job," Watson said. He said participants will leave the conference with a better knowledge of industries they are interested in.
Participants are encouraged to bring resumes. Booths will be set up to provide information, set up interviews and answer questions. More than 500 students are expected to attend.
