Ken Krechmer, a world authority on the international standards of telecommunications and technologies, will present a series of public lectures at CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ beginning Monday, Nov. 9.

Krechmer, who is spearheading a move to establish international consistency in telecommunications tools such as faxes, modems, fiber-optic cables and video conferencing, is a visiting fellow of the newly formed International Center for Standards Research, or ICSR, at CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ.

His talks are being sponsored by CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ's Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Program in collaboration with ICSR, which was funded through a Program of Excellence grant awarded to CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ's telecommunications program in 1998 by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education.

Krechmer's first talk, "The Principles of Open Standards," will be held on Monday, Nov. 9, at 4 p.m. in Classroom 1B-12 of the engineering center. On Tuesday, Nov. 10, he will speak on "Communications Standards and Patent Rights: Conflict or Coordination?" The talk is from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Forum Room of the University Memorial Center, located at the corner of Euclid and Broadway on the CU campus.

A third talk by Krechmer on Wednesday, Nov. 11, titled "The Structure of Technical Standards," will be held at 4 p.m. in Classroom 265 of the engineering center. All lectures are free and open to the public.
