The third installment of the CU Wizards series at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, "Boom! The Physics of Air Pressure and Sound," will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 9:30 a.m. in Duane Physics room G-030.

CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ physics instructor Michael Dubson will use exciting visual displays to explain several scientific phenomena including sonic booms, sound and the Bernoulli Principle.

The relationship between sound and music will be explained with the use of a special all-wood "physicist's piano," that plays musical tones without strings. Dubson also will demonstrate the force of air pressure by imploding a steel drum.

The free presentation is recommended for children in grades five through nine. Reservations are not required.

The CU Wizards series is an annual program that provides an informal introduction to astronomy, chemistry and physics. It includes presentations by CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ faculty with varying areas of expertise.

Free parking is available in lot 378 east of the stadium and north of Colorado Avenue, lots 396 and 169 north of the stadium and lot 436 east of the Engineering Center. Anyone with a disability or special need should notify the physics department at 303-492-6952 a few days in advance of the show. For parking instructions or general information about the CU Wizards series call 303-492-4318.

The next show in the series, "Chemistry is Fun," will be held Dec. 26 in room 140 of the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building.
