The College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ will celebrate the grand opening and dedication of its new Discovery Learning Center on October 18.

The $16.5 million addition to the Engineering Center Complex at Colorado Avenue and Regent Drive will be home to 11 top engineering research groups that actively involve undergraduates in current research along with graduate students, faculty, and industry or government partners.Ìý

National engineering and technology leaders will join university and state officials in the grand opening. An open house will be held after the dedication ceremony. All events are free and open to the public.

Carly Fiorina, chairman and chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard Co., will give the opening address at 1 p.m. in the Math 100 Auditorium at Folsom Street and Colorado Avenue on campus. Arrangements are being made to provide a live video feed to CU-Denver and CU-Colorado Springs and to any overflow audience on the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus.

William Wulf, president of the National Academy of Engineering, and Ned Barnholt, president and chief executive officer of Agilent Technologies, will be the featured speakers at the dedication ceremony. The dedication ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. on the Engineering Center Herbst Plaza, located between the Discovery Learning Center and the Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory.

CU President Elizabeth Hoffman, Chancellor Richard Byyny and state Sen. Terry Phillips also will speak at the dedication program, hosted by engineering Dean Robert Davis.

Following the ceremony, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the public is invited to tour the Discovery Learning Center and see demonstrations of engineering research and technology.
