“An investment in technology and sustainable, interactive design” has earned CU «Ƶ the FoodService Director (FSD) magazine's top honor for food service operations in 2018.

At Village Center Dining and Community Commons, this bicycle allows diners to burn calories while blending their own smoothies.

According to , “CU «Ƶ was highlighted for the innovation on display at its Village Center Dining and Community Commons,” which, among other innovative tech elements,features windows ofelectrochromic glass thatautomatically tint in proportion to the intensity of the sun and a bicycle that allows diners to burn calories while blending their own smoothies.

Paul Houle, director of campus dining, toldFSD: When planning the new eatery, the school’s dining team “did a lot of focus groups with our students looking to see what they were interested in and based it on research in our other dining halls, as well as to see what the students are liking. We also wanted to make it a destination and not really replicate every single thing on campus.”

Last fall,Campus Dining Serviceswas named Tech Accelerator of the Year by the editors of Restaurant Business magazinefor its outstanding use of technology innovation in the food service industry, with the Village Center's dining hall taking top honors in the nontraditional category.
