Class of 2019: Serene Singh

Colorado Springs native and Boettcher Scholar Serene Singh is graduating with bachelor鈥檚 degrees in political science and journalism.

Next fall, she will commence graduate studies as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, where she will pursue master鈥檚 degrees in criminology and criminal justice and evidence-based social intervention and policy evaluation. Singh is the first woman in CU 葫芦娃视频 history to receive a Rhodes Scholarship and the first Buff to receive it since 1993. She aspires to serve as a U.S. Supreme Court justice.

At CU 葫芦娃视频, she received the Truman Scholarship and Fulbright award. Among many other activities, she served as chief justice for CU Student Government; was a member of the Presidents Leadership Class; founded the Colorado Bhangra Team and the National Sikh Youth Program; and was president of the Sikh Student Association and the Political Science Honor Society.

Singh also worked with Michelle Obama鈥檚 Global Girls Alliance and founded The Serenity Project, a nonprofit that works to uplift marginalized and at-risk women to expand society鈥檚 notions of female power and beauty.

鈥淚鈥檓 going to miss this school so much,鈥 Singh said of her time at CU 葫芦娃视频. 鈥淚 know I鈥檓 going to miss home. It鈥檚 just inevitable. I鈥檓 excited to be challenged, and to be uncomfortable, and to be scared a little bit,鈥 she said. 鈥淚鈥檓 also really excited to see how I can help the journey of other Buffs.鈥
