Provost Russell Moore announced he has made the interim appointment of Akirah Bradley as vice chancellor of student affairs, effective Jan. 13, 2020.

Bradley is as an associate vice chancellor for student affairs and has been a leader in the Division of Student Affairs since 2016.

Bradley succeeds Christina Gonzales, who is leaving CU «Ƶ to seek new opportunities.

“I extend my gratitude to Christina for her seven years of service to the students, staff and faculty of CU «Ƶ,” Moore said. “Under her leadership, the Division of Student Affairs became more focused on holistic student support, more aligned with the overall campus mission and strategic imperativesand more streamlined and effective in carrying out support for students.”

Moore said that in the last seven years the division made numerous advancements and established itself as a national leader in the field of student affairs. Among the division’s accomplishments during this time frame are:

  • Restructuring, with a focus on holistic student support and more efficient central units;
  • Aligning the division’s goals with the overall campus mission and strategic imperatives;
  • Preparing the division and campus for the next generation of students and the general challenges and transformations facing higher education;
  • Increasing campus awareness and understanding of student affairs, the value it brings to the student experience and how it serves as a resource for faculty and staff;
  • Creating a vision and partnership with advancement that has led to record parent giving;
  • Advocating for students who have not been part of the majority voice and experience on campus.

Bradley will carry on this momentum during her interim appointment as vice chancellor of student affairs.

“Our Division of Student Affairs creates the resources and support our students depend on to help them reach their academic and personal goals,” Moore said. “Akirah’s experience and strong relationships in Student Affairs and across campus will allow for a seamless transition and continued excellence in the services offered by the Division of Student Affairs.”

Prior to her work at CU «Ƶ, Bradley worked as a student affairs leader at UC Berkeley, Semester at Sea and the University of Vermont. She earned her bachelor's of science degree in business administration from Mansfield University in Pennsylvania, her master's of education degree in higher education student affairs administration from the University of Vermont, and her doctoral degree in educational leadership from the University of California, Davis.
