The ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ is ranked No. 6 in the nation for graduates serving as Peace Corps volunteers with 62 alumni currently serving around the world, the Peace Corps announced today. In the annual Top Colleges list, CU-ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ has held a position in the top eight nationally among large institutions for the past 13 years, ranking in the top three for nine of those years. CU-ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ also has been the state leader among Colorado institutions of similar size each year since 2003.

A research team led by the ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ has discovered a mechanism in the brain that is key to making cocaine seem pleasurable, a finding that could lead to a drug treatment for fighting addiction. The findings build on past research also involving CU-ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ that found the same mechanism in the brain also interacts with heroin, oxycodone, morphine and other opioid drugs to amplify their addictiveness. The latest study suggests that the mechanism plays a key role in the addictiveness of many abused drugs, possibly including methamphetamine and alcohol.
