The University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ has appointed mechanical engineering professor Roop L. Mahajan to serve as interim dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science, pending approval by the CU Board of Regents.

CU Recycling Ready To Handle Boxes During Student Move-In

CU Recycling is in contact with students by radio and can help arrange photos at (303) 492-8307. For the fourth year, CU Recycling will be ready to collect and recycle empty cardboard boxes when University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ students begin moving into campus residence halls on Aug. 21.

CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Chancellor Richard Byyny, the vice chancellors and deans will be assisting students between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Aug. 21 and Aug. 22. 600 volunteers will be posted throughout the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus Aug. 21-22 to welcome new students and help them, and their belongings, get settled in the residence halls.

A team of researchers in ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, Colo., has generated a new and flexible approach to working with laser light in the world of ultrafast science by successfully combining extremely short pulses of light generated by two independent lasers into a single pulse of light.

Former residence hall advisers and housing staff members at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ are invited to a first-ever reunion of those groups during the Oct. 12-13 Back to ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Weekend on campus. CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ's Housing Department is trying to locate all former Resident Advisers, or RAs, and housing staff to include them in the events. The Housing Department, in conjunction with the Alumni Association, is hosting the Resident Adviser Roundup reunion.

Local Students To Receive Degrees From CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ

Local students will be among the 1,076 students who receive degrees Aug. 11 during summer commencement at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. The summer ceremony, which is much smaller than the spring and winter ceremonies, is the only one held outside on the lawn of the historic Norlin Quadrangle in the heart of the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus.

Mary Covell Returns To UMC As Business Manager

Carlos Garcia, director of the University Memorial Center, has announced the appointment of Mary E. Covell as business manager of the UMC. A certified public accountant, Covell oversees all budgeting and financial operations for the UMC administration. She also is managing six staff members in accounting. Jack O'Neill, former business manager, had returned from retirement to fill the post on a temporary basis before Covell was hired this summer.

The University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ has joined 20 companies, cities, universities and the United States Environmental Protection Agency in founding a partnership to boost the market for renewable energy sources. The Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program highlighted by the founding partners' pledges to switch to "green power" for a portion of their electricity needs within the next year.

CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Commencement Parking Made Easy With Early Arrival

With about 4,000 people expected to attend the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ summer commencement exercises Aug. 11 at 8:30 a.m. in the historic Norlin Quadrangle, attendees should plan to arrive early. Free parking will be available in the Euclid Avenue Autopark, lot 204 off 18th Street and Broadway, lot 310 off 18th Street and Wardenburg Drive, and in lot 308 at Regent Drive and Kittredge Loop Road. Lots 359 and 378, near Folsom Stadium, and the Regent Drive Autopark also are open and free.
