New evidence indicates while many Pueblo groups that abandoned the Four Corners area about 1300 migrated south to settle in northern Arizona and northern New Mexico, others made a swift, southernly migration up to 250 miles long.

The University of Colorado Museum of Natural History will host a daylong science program on Thursday, Oct. 12th on the CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus for 120 high school students from throughout Colorado. This year only schools in Colorado have chosen to participate. The students, who are members of the Colorado/Wyoming Junior Science Academy, will be exposed to all forms of science, from biology to physics and zoology to engineering, said Lori Stott, director of public programs at the CU Museum of Natural History.

Curious residents of Nederland, Colo., watched recently as two men pulled what looked like a small sled through the town cemetery. Nearby, a woman inched her way among the headstones like an edgy tightrope walker gripping a 15-foot-long metal rod. For spectators wondering what was up, the answer probably surprised them. A University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ geophysics class armed with high-tech equipment was searching for unmarked graves and empty plots in the historic mountain communityÂ’s cemetery as part of a project undertaken for Nederland town administrators.

The University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ and Front Range Community College have formed a partnership to host a "Breakfast of Champions" for metro-area eighth-graders on Tuesday, Oct. 17. 80 students and their teachers will have breakfast with CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ student athletes, coaches and faculty members in addition to FRCC faculty members. Coach Ricardo Patton will join basketball, cross country, track and field and soccer athletes to talk with the eighth-graders about the importance of education.

The need to remedy an existing shortage of research and academic space and modernize aging instructional and research space -- while preparing to meet the needs of an increasing state population in the future -- undergirds a 10-year facilities master plan for the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. Chancellor Richard L. Byyny presented the CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Campus Master Plan to the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE) today in Aurora.

The Women in Engineering Program at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ has scheduled two Engineering Career Days for High School women this academic year. The all-day programs on Monday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, March 3, will introduce ninth grade- through 12th grade-women to the field of engineering and engage them in hands-on demonstrations and activities. Participants also will hear from professional women engineers, meet current engineering students and get a tour of the CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus.

Two hundred patients at ChildrenÂ’s Hospital in Denver will receive their own "Buffalo Hug" pillows on Wednesday, Oct. 11, when the CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Chancellor, coaches and student athletes deliver the cuddly companions to ChildrenÂ’s Hospital President and CEO Doris J. Biester.

Professor Delbert Elliott, director of the CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence, and Colorado Attorney General Ken Salazar will speak to high school students in Denver and Louisville about youth violence on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Evidence of the worldÂ’s earliest known astronomical site discovered in the sediments of a dried lake in southern Egypt will be the topic of a live astronomy show at CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ's Fiske Planetarium this month. University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ astronomy Professor J. McKim Malville will present "Astronomy Before the Pyramids," on Friday, Oct. 13, and Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the planetarium.

The University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Business Advancement Center has issued a new directory for ColoradoÂ’s photonics industry. The multifaceted directory, the most comprehensive of its kind, offers current information about state and national photonics companies, as well as photonics consultants, organizations and federal laboratories. It also includes analyses of the Colorado and worldwide photonics industries.
