CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Names Interim Communications Director

Kevin Lee, associate director of University Communications at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, has been named interim executive director of University Communications while a national search for the permanent position is conducted. The position was vacated in early July by the departure of Bobbi Barrow, who left the university to join Denver Health Medical Center.

Doctors Without Borders Exhibit To Visit CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Aug. 24-25

Doctors Without Borders, an international humanitarian organization, will set up a traveling exhibit at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Aug. 24-25 to raise awareness of the need for medicines in poor countries. The exhibit, housed in a 48-foot tractor-trailer, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days and is free and open to the public. The exhibit will be set up between Fiske Planetarium and the Leeds School of Business on the north side of Regent Drive.

Religious Campus Organizations To Host Ice Cream Social At CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ On Aug. 22

The Religious Campus Organizations will host its second annual ice cream social at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Aug. 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the lawn of the Sibell Wolle Fine Arts Building. RCO is composed of 21 member groups involved in campus ministry at the university. Staff and students will be available to answer questions and provide information on the groups.

Two "Lost Boys" From Sudan To Attend CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ This Fall

Their journey as refugees fleeing the brutal civil war in Sudan that claimed the lives of their families and their villages has taken them through some of the most war-torn areas of the world. Now it is bringing them to the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ.

Stampede Bus Begins Service To CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Campuses Aug. 26

The Stampede shuttle bus will provide convenient connections between the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ's main and east campuses and Research Park beginning Aug. 26. The natural-gas-powered shuttle will operate from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, connecting the campuses with buses arriving every 10 minutes. CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ students, faculty and staff will be able to board the Stampede without charge by showing their RTD-validated student bus pass or faculty-staff Eco Pass.

CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Police Will Give Free Pizza To Students Who Stop And Talk During 'Hill Stops'

The University of Colorado Police Department will give away free pizza to students during "Hill Stops" on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 23-24, as part of an ongoing effort to enhance relations between university students and police. The giveaway starts at 11 p.m. on Friday and 8 p.m. on Saturday and will end when the pizza runs out. Officers will give away pizza and lemonade to students who stop and visit. Students should look for CU officers on the campus side of the Hill underpass at Broadway and College Avenue. ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Police also will participate in the Hill Stops.

Search Committee Named For Dean Of School Of Journalism And Mass Communication At CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ

A search committee has been named to identify finalists for the position of dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. Stewart Hoover, professor of journalism and mass communication, is currently serving as interim dean of the school. He assumed the post last February, following the departure of former dean Del Brinkman, who resigned citing health and family concerns.

"Words to Stir the Soul: Readings From the American West," will be presented by the CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Center of the American West in ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ on Tuesday, Aug. 27, and in Denver on Thursday, Aug. 29. The sixth annual event will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 27 in the Old Main Chapel on the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus, and at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 29 at the LoDo Tattered Cover Book Store at 16th Street and Wyncoop Street in Denver.

CU Artist Series Keeps World-Class Performers Coming To ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ

An ambitious effort to bring culture to ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ in 1937 has grown into a perennial provider of world-class performances from artists as stylistically diverse as Dave Brubeck and the Japan Philharmonic. Both the American jazz legend and the Asian symphony have performed in the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ's Artist Series, now in its 65th season. Legendary violinist Isaac Stern performed six times in the series, and other past performers include Leonard Bernstein, Van Cliburn, Paul Robeson, Yo-Yo Ma, Branford Marsalis, Andres Segovia and Beverly Sills.

STATEMENT: University Of Colorado Response To ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ County Commissioners Decision On South Campus Property

We are very pleased with the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ County Commissioners' decision today to approve our application for the construction of 12 tennis courts and a parking lot on the 308 acre South Campus property. The Commissioners agreed that the university's application was in conformance with the county's land use regulations and met all other applicable requirements of the law. We are committed to being good stewards of the South Campus property, a state asset that will benefit generations of students. Construction of the tennis courts will begin as soon as design work is complete.
