The Housing Department at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ will hold its annual Global Jam smorgasbord of culturally diverse foods on Thursday, Sept. 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Farrand Field. The special meal is meant to raise awareness about other cultures through ethnic entertainment and cuisine, according to Peggy Bonner, a CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ residence hall director. This yearÂ’s menu will offer foods from Africa, Brazil, the European Alps and down-home Southern cooking.

A number of safety improvements are in place at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ for the 2000-2001 school year and more are on the way. More than $300,000 in lighting improvements have been completed on the CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus over the past year. Another $300,000 is expected to be spent on lighting projects this year in an ongoing effort to improve campus safety, according to Jim Fadenrecht, public safety director at CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ.

Richard L. Byyny, chancellor of the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, has proposed that a new College of Information Science and Technology be created on the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus. Byyny announced the appointment of a campus-wide committee to study the proposal at an annual faculty breakfast meeting last week. Bobby Schnabel, associate vice chancellor for campus technology, and Clayton Lewis, chair of the computer science department, will co-chair the exploratory committee.

Professor Fran Bagenal of CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ’s astrophysical and planetary sciences department has received the PresidentÂ’s 2000 Faculty Excellence Award for Advancing Teaching and Learning through Technology from the University of Colorado system. Established in 1998, the prestigious award goes to one faculty member annually from each of the four CU campuses. Winners are honored for their creativity using technology in teaching, their commitment to students, leadership in promoting educational technology and overall contributions to their fields.
