New CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Psychologist Specializes In Student Interests And Cross-Cultural Counseling

Dianna Ducote-Sabey has been selected to join the team of psychologists and counselors at Counseling and Psychological Services: A Multicultural Center, at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. The appointment will be considered for approval at the Dec. 9 Board of Regents meeting in ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. Ducote-Sabey is scheduled to start Jan. 10. "We are very pleased to have Dianna as a staff psychologist working with CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ students, staff and faculty," said Eldridge Greer, director of the center.

CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Hires New Director Of Pre-Collegiate Program

Johanna B. Maes has been named the new director of the Pre-Collegiate Development program at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, according to Ken Wilson, director of the Student Academic Services Center. The appointment will be considered at the Dec. 9 Board of Regents' meeting in ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ and Maes will start Dec. 13, pending regents' approval. Maes, a CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ alumna, replaces Christopher Pacheco as director of the program. Pacheco assumed the position of associate director for academic support and grant operations at the center last January.

Campus Self-Study Draft Available For Comment

The University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ is seeking public feedback on a draft report of a campus self-study as part of its regular application for continued accreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The self-study report will be used by the NCA evaluating team in preparation for its campus visit April 17-19, 2000. Evaluations for NCA accreditation occur every 10 years.

Supernovae And Their History Topic Of Astronomy Show At Fiske

One of the most violent phenomena in astronomy -- supernovae -- will be the topic of a live astronomy show at Fiske Planetarium, Friday, Dec. 3, and Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ astronomy Professor Richard McCray will delve into supernovae, looking at everything from ancient Chinese inscriptions to current observations of these rare stars and how new observations are used to measure the expansion of the universe.

Design Expo To Showcase Student-Built Engineering Projects

Lack Of Private Health Insurance Increases Risk Of Dying, Study Finds

Adults under the age of 65 who lacked private health insurance were 35 percent more likely to die between 1986 and 1995 than similar adults who had such insurance, according to a new study examining factors associated with mortality in the United States. Previous studies have highlighted the effects of income and education on mortality and both of these factors also have important links to heath insurance, according to three sociology professors in Colorado, Texas and Florida.

Legal Experts Give CU Law School High Marks

Faculty in the University of Colorado School of Law are among the best in the nation, according to two law experts in articles recently written for legal journals. The CU law faculty are ranked 22nd best in the country, according to an upcoming article in the Journal of Legal Studies by Brian Leiter, professor of law at the University of Texas at Austin.
