ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ

Two faculty members from the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ were elected to the National Academy of Sciences this week, bringing the total number of CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ professors to 17 who have been named to the elite institution. Richard McIntosh, a professor in CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ’s molecular, cellular and developmental biology department, and Charles DePuy, an emeritus professor in CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ’s chemistry and biochemistry department, were among the 60 members nationwide elected in 1999.

The 69th annual Alumni Awards ceremony will honor 10 people for their service to the University of Colorado and their communities in Old Main Chapel at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11. The George Norlin Award, honoring distinguished alumni for lifetime achievement and devotion to the betterment of society, goes to Mary Ann Casey, a 1970 International Relations graduate, former ambassador to Algeria and Tunisia, and CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ's current diplomat in residence.

Phase I of the Student Odyssey Project, an initiative of the chancellor and the three vice chancellors to re-engineer the delivery of administrative services to students on the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus, has been completed. "CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ is striving to be a total learning environment, which means putting students first and being innovative, responsive, efficient, and asking at every juncture, 'what's best for the students?' " said Chancellor Richard Byyny. "It is important that we improve student services to ensure that student energy is focused on academics."

Six University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ alumni received Distinguished Engineering Alumni Awards at the 34th annual Engineering Awards Banquet on April 16. The awards were presented by the College of Engineering and Applied Science to recognize alumni who have distinguished themselves through their outstanding personal qualities, knowledge and significant contributions to their fields. Awards were given in the categories of Government Service, Industry and Commerce, Private Practice and Research and Invention.
