The ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ today launched CU-ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Crowdfunding, an online pilot platform to help drive the ideas generated by students, faculty and staff. Crowdfunding is the practice of sourcing small contributions from a large number of people to provide funding for a particular project or campaign, usually via the Internet.

The ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ will hold its spring commencement ceremony on Friday, May 9, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Folsom Field. Due to traffic delays, and ongoing construction on U.S. 36 leading into ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅, early arrival is strongly advised. Gates open at 7 a.m. and guests should plan to be seated by 8:15 a.m. The ceremony will be held outdoors in the stadium regardless of the weather. In the event of heavy rain or snow an abbreviated ceremony will be held.

A deployable fire hose stand designed for the Longmont Fire Department and a heat-resistant mask designed to protect firefighters and fire victims from poisonous fumes will be among more than 90 student inventions showcased at the ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣơ’s Engineering Design Expo on Saturday, April 26. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature a wide range of student-built devices including adaptive technology for people with disabilities, Rube Goldberg machines and even hovercrafts.

University of Colorado to offer course for lighting professionals June 23-27

The Rocky Mountain Lighting Academy (RMLA) will offer a one-of-a-kind immersive educational opportunity for lighting professionals this summer at the ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅. The RMLA’s Summer Lighting Course is scheduled for June 23-27 on the CU-ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ campus. The course will present the theory of lighting within a practical context, making it directly applicable to the needs of those working in engineering, product development and technical sales positions.

The ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ today announced the hiring of Timothy Orr as producing artistic director of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Orr has been serving as interim director since February 2013 and was hired at the conclusion of a nationwide search for a permanent director. Orr has been with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival as a performer since 2007 and joined the staff as the associate producing director in 2011.

A new report led by the ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅, β€œConsiderations for Climate Change and Variability Adaptation on the Navajo Nation,” synthesizes state-of-the-science information on the region’s climate, water cycle and ecology. And it goes much further, discussing social, legal, economic, infrastructural and other factors that affect people’s vulnerabilities to climate impacts as well as their adaptive capacity, and outlining one approach for how the region’s residents might plan for ongoing environmental change.

CU’s Conference on World Affairs announces online viewing of sessions

The Conference on World Affairs at the ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ will livestream selected sessions online April 7-11 and also will make them available for viewing on-demand once the event has concluded. CWA will livestream sessions in Macky Auditorium and in the University Memorial Center’s central Glenn Miller Ballroom. The sessions will remain available for viewing through Friday, April 18.
