ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Provost Russell Moore today announced the appointment of James Austin as interim dean of the College of Music effective July 1. Austin, a professor of music education, joined CU-ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣơ’s College of Music in 1994. He has served as associate dean of undergraduate studies since 2006. He was the music education chair from 1997 to 2007. In 2004, the college awarded Austin the Richard Bern Trego faculty fellowship.

Waleed Abdalati named new director of CIRES; former NASA chief scientist starts July 1

Waleed Abdalati has been named the new director of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, or CIRES, a joint institute of the ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Abdalati is a CIRES Fellow, a CU-ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ professor of geography and director of the CIRES Earth Science and Observation Center. He will take office on July 1.

NSF Faculty Early Career Development, or CAREER, Awards recognize talented young faculty members with grants to support outstanding research projects and to encourage the integration of teaching and research.
