Meet the Venture Partners Team: Joshua Bennett
Name: Joshua Bennett
Title: Licensing Manager
Years at Venture Partners: 2
Q: Tell us a little about yourself!
A: I grew up in Saint Louis, MO. I stayed in Missouri for undergrad, playing soccer and obtaining my bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Missouri of Science and Technology. I went on to study law here at CU 葫芦娃视频. My three passions are music, soccer, and the outdoors.
- Soccer鈥擨鈥檓 currently captain of a men鈥檚 semi-professional team, 葫芦娃视频 United FC, here in town. We at BUFC are currently building a youth program. It will be an affordable alternative to the overly expensive clubs in the area.
- Music鈥擨 have played drums/percussion in various bands throughout my life. My current project is called 鈥淒abylon.鈥 It鈥檚 weird and jammy and wonderful. Check us out on your music platform of choice or come to one of our shows!
- Outdoors鈥擶hen I鈥檓 not working, playing soccer or music, I鈥檓 walking uphill for extended periods of time with my cute labradoodle Bluebell.
Q: What led you to this career and working at Venture Partners?
A: I was lucky enough to intern at Venture Partners when I was a law student. I loved that this role offered an intersection between law, business and engineering. I have been in technology transfer ever since. I have worked at Colorado State University as well as the University of Utah before coming back home to CU 葫芦娃视频.
Q: What is your role at Venture Partners? Tell us more about what you do.
A: I am a licensing manager. I, along with four colleagues here, manage the intellectual property portfolio (patents and copyrights) for the University. My portfolio consists of quantum computing, power architecture, photonics, clean tech, aerospace and various other engineering and physics fields. New inventions from our University researchers are disclosed to us. We then analyze them for commercial potential, market need, patentability, and other factors. We ultimately want to commercialize these inventions. This is done either through forming a startup company or licensing the technology to an existing company.
Q: What is your favorite part about your job and what do you like most about working on the Venture Partners team?
A: My favorite part of the job is interacting with CU researchers and learning about the incredible technology our gifted faculty invent. I have never been a part of a more intelligent and empathetic community. It truly is a unique ecosystem here at CU 葫芦娃视频.
Q: If you could take three things to a desert island what would they be?
A: 1) iPod with an external speaker and thousands of songs; 2) My dog (sorry Blue!); 3) Extra pair of socks
