Ivy Cutting Marks the Start of SPU Commencement Ceremonies

More than 90 years of tradition will continue at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ on Friday, June 10, 9:30-10:30 a.m., as hundreds of graduating seniors and their families take part in the annual Ivy Cutting ceremony held in on campus. Ivy Cutting marks the start of graduation activities at SPU. The Ivy Cutting ceremony, Graduate Commencement, and Undergraduate Commencement will be .

Begun as an "Ivy Planting" ceremony in 1922, this long-honored tradition involves students, families, faculty, and staff. Graduating seniors dressed in caps and gowns circle a rope of ivy. After a brief ceremony, each graduate receives a sprig of ivy, signifying both the student’s tie to SPU and the independence that comes with graduation. Light refreshments follow for graduates, parents, and faculty in Tiffany Loop.

 will be held Saturday, June 11, beginning at 1 p.m. at Key Arena. More than 1,200 students will graduate from SPU this spring. 

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ is located at the corner of Third Avenue West and West Nickerson Street, on the north slope of Queen Anne Hill. Tiffany Loop is located at the corner of 3rd Avenue West and West Cremona Street.
