When real estate and social responsibility collide
A champion of corporate social responsibility, Josephine M. Maalouf stands squarely at the intersection of real estate and social responsibility. An early recognition of the social responsibility of business has helped her develop a balance between the need for corporate financial performance and the development needs of her country.
As director of real estate at Lady Lee Corporation, the leading developer of shopping centers in Honduras and one of the largest in Central America, she has been a pioneer in promoting social and economic development in Honduras communities. Lady Lee, a privately-held retail company headquartered in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, is a business conglomerate of real estate, department stores, casual dining and a philanthropic foundation.
Maalouf directs commercial operations of the real estate division which owns and operates 14 regional shopping malls in Honduras and Costa Rica. She also serves as secretary of Foundation Lady Lee, the social arm of the corporation born with the purpose of seeking solutions to social problems in high-risk communities, with the support of national and international brands such as Applebee's, Wendy's, Real Estate and Shop Lady Lee.

Maalouf will be the first global real-estate-leader-in-residence at the CU Real Estate Center’s new Symposium Series. In partnership with the Center for Education on Social Responsibility (CESR), the first symposium will be held Thursday, October 20th.
