Career Readiness Canvas Course

Career Services’ Canvas course modules provide the foundational content that students need as they consider what job or career to pursue, how to build experiences and skills during their time at CU «Ƶ, and how to successfully job search.

By incorporating some or all of these career and professional development modules into your Canvas course, you can help your students prepare for their next step after college.

    Learning Outcomes

    • Understand the elements of a job search and how to best utilize your time.
    • Learn how to search for a job, including identifying key words to use and how to read job postings.
    • Evaluate company culture to determine if an internship or job is the right fit.
    • Identify which job boards to use.
    • Apply what you’ve learned by finding three relevant job postings.

    • Understand the types of documents needed for a job search, including resume, cover letter, portfolio and others.
    • Learn how to format and tailor a resume and cover letter to a specific position and learn how to write strong bullet points.
    • Revise your resume using an online resume editing tool.

    • Understand that career and major exploration is a process and requires you to expand your self-awareness and awareness of the world of work.
    • Recognize that there are many paths to careers which can include but aren’t limited to your major.
    • Identify ways to explore your major and/or career interests.

    • Learn how to create a successful online profile.
    • Write a profile summary that can be used on LinkedIn or Handshake, and complete your Handshake profile.

    Learning Outcomes

    • Learn how to prepare for a variety of modalities of interviews, including virtual, phone, video and in-person interviews.
    • Understand how to prepare for and answer different types of interview questions, including behavioral, case study and technical interview questions.
    • Identify what questions to ask in an interview and how to word them in an appropriate and professional manner.
    • Complete a practice interview using the interview preparation tool and a self-assessment of your responses.
