Undergraduate Advising
Advising team for Classics majors:
- In-major Faculty Advisor:
- Academic Advisor: Rick Seydel
- 1st-year-student Advisor: Angie Greenwald
- 1st-year-student Advisor: Sandy Song
Academic Coach: Lauren Osmer
Arts & Sciences students beyond their first year wishing to declare a major or minor can do so by going to Buff Portal Advising, logging in, clicking on the tile “meet with a different advisor/update your major/minor”, and following the instructions.
Arts & Sciences students in their first year wishing to change their major should see a First Year advisor (contact information above).
Students in Colleges other than Arts & Sciences wishing to declare a Classics major will need to gain admission to the College of Arts & Sciences first and should make an appointment with Rick Seydel to explore the process.
All students should feel welcome to make an appointment with the Classics faculty advisor to discuss the department’s two major tracks, our minor, and our courses. The faculty advisor holds regular office hours and is also available by email and by phone.
Students making progress towards a Classics major or minor are invited each semester to schedule an individual advising appointment with the faculty advisor, at which they explore any field-specific topics, such as writing an honors thesis in Classics or studying abroad in Classics programs, or discuss their progress to degree, select courses for the following semester, and, where possible, chart out their plans for the longer-range future.
