Mongabay founder to discuss environmental journalism at CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus

During the event, panelists will describe the challenges facing reporters who cover environmental issues in the global tropics. They will also explore ways that new models of environmental journalism can help reporters cover tropical issues ranging from deforestation to species extinction.
The panel will be moderated by Michael Kodas, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and deputy director of the Center for Environmental Journalism at the College of Media, Communication and Information. Panelists will include Rhett Butler, the founder and CEO of Mongabay; Chris Lett, an Emmy-nominated journalist and Ted Scripps Fellow in Environmental Journalism; and Taran Volckhausen, a Mongabay contributor and freelance multimedia journalist.
Mongabay, a nonprofit news organization, was founded 20 years ago and has grown to include video and podcasting units. Its website, , has a global audience of more than 30 million readers and publishes daily in nine languages via four international bureaus, which it is currently planning to expand.
The event is free and open to the public and will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the SEEC auditorium. It is sponsored by the Center for Environmental Journalism; the College of Media, Communication and Information; the Albert A. Bartlett Science Communication Center and Mongabay.com.
