Dr. C. Wyatt Shields IV is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering.Ìý

His group's research in soft matter and biotechnology is motivated Dr. C. Wyatt Shieldsbynew and emerging challenges in medicine. His laboratory is focused on developing "smart" particles that are responsive to, and ultimately controlled by, external stimuli for use as next-generation biosensors and drug delivery vehicles.ÌýÌý

What is your motto?

My motto is technically a poem: "If" by Rudyard Kipling. It's always been a source of inspiration. I keep a copy on my desk.Ìý

What’s something most people don’t know about you?Ìý

I have a stash of chocolate hidden in my office for "emergencies".

One thing you’re willing to spend way too much on...Ìý

I'm generally pretty frugal, but my wife tells me that I spend too much on outdoor recreational equipment. Being a new Colorado resident, I want to try everything!

Who would you most like to meet and why?Ìý

Malcolm Gladwell, Bill Gates and/or Richard Feynman (if deceased counts); all are great thinkers.

What is your guilty pleasure?Ìý

Documentaries and non-fiction reading. I've also really been into astronomy ever since I was a kid.ÌýDr. C. Wyatt Shields

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

Don't take yourself too seriously.

What do you most like to do to unwind?ÌýÌý

Long jogs, hikes, bike rides or board games if I'm indoors.
