Prof. Joseph Kasprzyk's Student Hired by the Bureau of Reclamation
Dr. Rebecca Smith recently graduated with the PhD in Civil Engineering from CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ and was hired by the Bureau of Reclamation's Lower Colorado Region in the fall of 2017. As a civil/hydrologic engineer, she will join a team of Reclamation employees stationed at the Center for Decision Support for Water and Environmental Systems (CADSWES) who lead the Region's research and development of modeling applications and decision support for water operations and planning in the Colorado River Basin.
Rebecca's roles will include working on Colorado River Basin planning studies, developing projections of the Colorado River system, and evaluating water management strategies to address potential future water scarcity in the Basin. Rebecca will also help to coordinate the Region's research and development program to investigate the use of new methods for projecting possible future Colorado River flows and decision-making (under deep uncertainty) frameworks. Rebecca brings expertise in multi-objective evolutionary algorithms, a robust decision-making framework, and her work with stakeholders to understand and incorporate such algorithms.
Dr. Rebecca Smith emphasized that "It has been wonderful to defend, graduate, and start my dream job in the last few months. Besides fostering solid technical and research skills, my advisers and the scientific community at CU provided avenues for the extracurricular activities and networking that really expanded my professional interests and prospects. I can't imagine having a better experience or outcome."
