Forms and Transcripts
The University of Colorado School of Law Registrar's Office can provide the following at no cost:
- Bar Certification Forms
- Student Practice Act Forms
- Letters (enrollment verification, good standing, graduation certification, and award of degree)
Forms, Letters, and Certifications can take up to 1 week to process and complete depending on the form. Please allow for ample processing time for your request.
Validation Requirements
The Law Registrar's Office requires written permission from the student or alumni to release any information from their education record. We do not accept requests by telephone.
To validate your request:
- Current students and alumni who still have access to their colorado.edu email: Send your request from your official @Colorado.edu email address
- Alumni who graduated before May 2005 OR who no longer have access to an official @Colorado.edu email address: Submit a signed request
- Third parties: Submit a request accompanied by signed written permission from the current or former student
In your request, include the following information (if known):
- Student's full name at the time of enrollment (include former/maiden names)
- Student ID (if known)
- Dates of attendance
- Year of graduation (or intended year of graduation)
- Phone Number
- Number of documents and format requested (PDF or paper copy)
- Email or mailing address where the document(s) should be sent
- Deadline by which the document must be submitted (if any)
Requests for forms are processed in the order they are received and may take several business days, especially during periods of high volume. The Law Registrar's Office will notify you by email once your request is complete. If you are submitting a form to the Law Registrar, make sure that you have signed and completed the appropriate applicant portions of the form prior to submitting your request. Current students have access to which can help expedite completion of your form.
Transcripts
Starting in Summer 2020, current and former students will need to request transcripts through main campus. The law school will no longer issue transcripts. Info on transcripts and ordering information can be found here.
Students should request either an unofficial or official law transcript to view rank (if applicable). Current students can view their unofficial law transcript for free through the student portal. Starting in Spring 2020, law school ranks will be available on the unofficial law transcript. Dual degree students will need to order a transcript for both their law school and other degree if they would like all work reflected. Order of the Coif, Public Service Pledge, Dean’s List notations are also on the transcript, if applicable. Certificates (if earned) are listed on the transcript after the student has graduated.
Please note that any financial obligations with a CU campus must be resolved before a transcript can be released. Students with access to Buff Portal should check the Alerts section for any holds on their account.

Enrollment, Good Standing, Graduation, and Degree Verification
Letters verifying enrollment, good standing, graduation, and award of degree are available from the Law Registrar by emailing lawreg@colorado.edu. If you require verification of any other information in the letter, please include specifics in your request. If you would like your class rank included in your letter (if applicable), please review the Class Rank and Grading Policies prior to submitting your request.
Bar Forms
Each state maintains its own rules and regulations regarding the licensing of attorneys and has its own bar examination. The ABA provides a , which contains a synopsis of each state's bar admission requirements and relevant dates. Applicants are encouraged to review the state requirements and dates. Graduation certification will only occur after all grades are finalized and all graduation requirements are complete.
Students and alumni who need information such as LSAT scores or their law school application should contact directly.
Email all bar forms to lawreg@colorado.edu along with relevant information to help the staff complete your form in a timely manner. Students applying to the Colorado Bar should review the Bar Admission and FAQ webpages.
Student Practice Act Form
Law students who have completed at least two years of law school may appear in court pursuant to . A student must file a that they have completed two years of law school and is of good moral character. The student must also provide the name of the supervising attorney and an anticipated graduation date. Work must be performed for an attorney in the public sector, i.e., the Public Defender's Office or District Attorney's Office; or on behalf of a non profit legal services organization where poor or legally underserved persons receives legal advice.
To file this certification, print the form, complete the first two sections, and email a scanned copy to lawreg@colorado.edu. The Law Registrar will then complete and submit the form on your behalf. In spring term, these forms are held until the final examination period has ended. All held forms are then processed as quickly as possible.
