The Literacy Practicum
The Literacy Practicum (LING 1900) is an outreach program sponsored by the CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Linguistics Department. We collaborate with ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ community partners to support language and literacy development among various populations. With our community partners we support elementary school children learning to read, immigrant and refugee-background adult learning English, and international students developing English academic skills.

How it Works
The program matches CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Literacy Practicum volunteers with multilingual learners of English living along the Front Range area. You'll discover that you can have an impact on the lives of readers of all ages, including those learning English as an additional language. The collaboration between CU students and community learning partners is mutually beneficial as each develops intercultural competence, interpersonal communication skills, and friendship, with the additional bonus of sharing a love of language and learning.
The opportunity for you to make connections with members of our community is a great motivator and an important component of humanizing education. At the same time, literacy and language learners involved in the program enjoy getting to know university students who are committed to community-based learning.
There are no prerequisites for LING 1900, and you can take it multiple times. We know you'll want to continue once you get started!
