MASP Over the Years--Pictures of various cohorts over the past deacdes

Our Mission

The Miramontes Arts & Sciences Program (MASP) is dedicated to supporting motivated traditionally underrepresented or first generation students interested in being part of a diverse community of scholars and stressing the ideal of the pursuit of excellence within that community. ÌýÌýIn particular, MASP supports its students with an emphasis on matriculation retention in and post-graduate success from the College of Arts & Sciences by providing students access to resources, enrichment opportunities, and individualized one-on-one academic support and guidance. ÌýMASP encourages its students to be open-minded and to build life-skills/tools for success.

Our History

Founded in 1993 as the Minority Arts & Sciences Program, MASP’s charge from the College of Arts & Sciences was to retain the many talented traditionally underrepresented or first generation students the university discovered had been switching their majors from the natural sciences or leaving CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ altogether. ÌýOver the years, MASP has grown dramatically, both in the academic interests of its students and in the ways it supports its students. ÌýMASP is now much more than a retention program. ÌýWe now help students focus on making the transition from high school to college and from college to their post-graduate aspirations. ÌýIn 2008, we proudly renamed our program to honor the late Dr. Ofelia Miramontes – a tireless advocate for providing resources ensuring academic excellence for bilingual students, first-generation students, and traditionally underrepresented students.
