A message from Health Services: Due to a supply surplus, Health Services is offering flu shots free of charge to staff, faculty, and students through June 1, 2023. Call to make an appointment at 206-281-2231.

The SPU Percussion Ensemble, directed by Dan Adams, will present their winter concert on Tuesday, Mar. 14, 7:30 p.m., in the E.E. Bach Theater in McKinley Hall. The concert will include works by James Rago, Anthony Cirone, Earl Hatch, and Mark Ford along with traditional marimba selections of Guatemala and West African drumming from the Baga Ethnic Group of West Guinea. Admission is free.

First Free Methodist Church is hosting a study hall for students through Thursday, Mar. 16, 4-11 p.m. There will be a FREE dinner Wednesday, Mar. 15, at 6 p.m.

The next School of Education monthly EdTalk is Wednesday, Apr. 12, 4–5:30 p.m. The title is "Young Adult Literature and Spirituality: How to Unlock Deeper Understanding with Class Discussion." Kristine Gritter, professor or curriculum and instruction, and Xu Bian, assistant professor of Chinese, teamed up with two colleagues to write a book about how middle school and high school students can look at young adult literature as examples of types of prayer — prayers of anger, thanksgiving, lament, confession, reconciliation, joy, and more.

Dr. Bill Boerman-Cornell from Trinity Christian College will elaborate on the book’s description of a series of approaches pioneered by ancient, medieval, and modern biblical scholars that allow for discussion to be centered on the text more than usual in classroom discussions. Works by students in Assistant Professor of Art Alison Stigora’s sculpture studio class are now on display in the Ames Library. The exhibit of sculptures, titled “Push and Pull,” will be on view through Thursday, Mar. 16.

Stephen Newby, professor of music, will participate in a concert and community gospel sing titled "My Tribute: The Life and Legacy of Andraé Crouch" at Baylor University, Mar. 15-18. Stephen will lead a community gospel sing on Mar. 16, and participate in a concert honoring Crouch the following day. Both events are part of . Andraé Crouch was an award-winning gospel musician, recording artist, songwriter, arranger, and producer.

Professor of Theology Doug Koskela’s book The Radiance of God received the 2022 Smith/Wynkoop Book Award from the Wesleyan Theological Society. This award recognizes a recent publication of distinction in a research area related to the Wesleyan/Holiness tradition. The award was presented at the society’s annual meeting in Wilmore, Kentucky, on March 3. Congratulations, Doug!

Several works by Laura Lasworth, professor emerita of art, are included in the exhibition, “Beyond the Meadow,” selected specifically for Taproot Theatre’s production of , from March 20 to April 29, 2023.

Karl Lerum, Falcon track and field head coach, and Chris Reed, associate head coach, were interviewed by The Seattle Times for a feature story on SPU track star Vanessa Aniteye, who competed in the recent NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.
