SPU hosts women's soccer NCAA West Regional this week
SPU will host the women's soccer NCAA West Regionals this weekend at Interbay Soccer Stadium. The opening round is Thursday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m. as Simon Fraser plays CSU Los Angeles. The Falcons will play the winner of that match on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m. Bring your family and friends to the game on Saturday to cheer on the Falcons! .

CIS quizzes about cybersecurity
Computer and Information Systems has created two Cybersecurity Awareness Quizzes for Cybersecurity Awareness Month. One is geared towards SPU faculty and staff and the other is for SPU students. Each quiz is based off of the Cybersecurity Awareness blog posts and includes ten questions. Those who pass with a score of 100% will have their names automatically entered into a raffle. CIS will draw names and contact the winners directly so that they may select a prize of their choosing. Check out the for posts on cybersecurity awareness and the Cybersecurity Awareness Quiz.

Music concerts this week
On Tuesday, Nov. 14, the Percussion and Jazz Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. in E.E. Bach Theatre in McKinley Hall. On Wednesday, Nov. 15, the Chamber Singers will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Nickerson Studios. Both concerts are free.

SPU Voices podcast: "Seen, Recognized, and Loved," with Jacoby Miles '20
The latest SPU Voices podcast features 2020 alumna Jacoby Miles, who describes herself as a business administrator, lover of the arts, apologetics enthusiast, and lover of people. At the age of 15, she was paralyzed from the chest down due to a gymnastics accident. She has worked hard to gain her strength back but is still confined to a wheelchair with limited mobility. She says her life has never been the same after the accident, but it has changed in the best way, too. .

Faculty/Staff Bulletin deadline. No Bulletin on Nov. 20
The Faculty/Staff Bulletin is published every Monday during the academic year, or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday. The Bulletin will not be published on Monday, Nov. 20. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the next deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 22. The next issue will be published Monday, Nov. 27.

Delgado's article published
An article by Tracie Delgado, associate professor of biology, and collaborators, titled “” was published in the journal Cell on Nov. 9. This manuscript discusses the persistent underrepresentation of Latina STEM faculty and identifies solutions to help retain Latina faculty, especially during the professor tenure and promotion process.

An article co-authored by Mohammad Qadam Shah, assistant professor of global development, titled ", was published in the Indonesian Journal of Law and Society.

Thornberry's essay published
A personal essay by Jason Thornberry, office coordinator in the School of Education, titled “,” was published recently in the South Florida Poetry Journal. The essay is about his experience contending with Nazi skinheads in the punk rock scene of the late 1980s.
